THE TEMPLE DAY, EXPLAINED

Kashi Vishwanath Temple Timings: Plan the Right Visit Window

Understand the published Aarti schedule, the difference between opening and admission, and the time to allow around your visit.

A temple timetable helps most when you read it alongside the visit you have planned. Ordinary darshan, a booked Aarti and a particular puja have different entry arrangements, even when they fall within the same temple day.

A ceremony time is not a promise of general entry throughout that hour. Use the schedule below to shape your day, then match it to your ticket and the latest temple instructions. The complete temple guide explains the wider setting; this page concentrates on the clock.

The published daily Aarti timetable

The Trust's Daily Schedule and Aarti pages publish the following reference times. The separate notification page gives different times for Mangala and mid-day Bhog, shown in the final column. These official references were reviewed on 29 October 2026; their disagreement means this is a planning comparison, not a confirmed timetable for your date. All times are Indian Standard Time.

Resolve the early-morning difference before travelling. Do not average two published times or choose the later one. Follow the current ticket's reporting instructions and seek clarification from the Trust if they conflict with an announcement. The official domain is shrikashivishwanath.org.

Opening hours and general darshan are different

The Trust FAQ describes an overall 3:00 AM–11:00 PM temple day; the notification page describes opening at 2:45 AM for Mangala Aarti. Both place closing at 11:00 PM. That broad span contains worship, controlled entry and changes in the visitor flow. General darshan is not continuously available throughout that span.

For an ordinary visit, ask when the general-darshan line is being admitted on your chosen date. For booked worship, use that service's reporting time. The published Sugam service window is also not the same thing as a guaranteed available slot: the date-specific booking screen decides what can be reserved.

The darshan guide helps you choose the appropriate visit. Keep the distinction clear when arranging transport: arriving before a ritual starts is useful only if you have the correct entry arrangement for it.

Choose a window around your purpose

If the priority is ordinary darshan

Choose a generous block in the day and avoid putting an immovable appointment immediately after it. A visit between two published ceremonies still involves the active queue and security arrangements. Waiting times depend on the queue and security arrangements, not just the hour shown on a timetable.

If the priority is a particular Aarti

Reserve that ceremony where required before building the rest of the day around it. In particular, Mangala Aarti involves an overnight alarm and advance preparation. An ordinary darshan plan does not become a Mangala admission simply because you arrive very early.

If your time in Varanasi is short

Prioritise one temple visit that you can complete comfortably. A tightly packed schedule of darshan, breakfast, a boat departure and a train connection leaves little room for the first delay. If you need a booked service, compare the actual options in the online booking guide before deciding.

Work backwards from the reporting time

Your alarm time, vehicle pickup and ceremony start are three different moments. Write down the reporting requirement first, then allow for the permitted drop-off, the remaining walk, storage arrangements and security. A map estimate rarely covers all four.

  1. Read the date carefully. A 2:30 AM report on Saturday belongs to the early hours after Friday night. Arrange the hotel night and driver accordingly.
  2. Confirm the final approach. Use the temple arrival guide to discuss a practical drop-off rather than asking a car to reach the sanctum.
  3. Prepare before resting. Keep the printed booking and required identification ready, and settle where prohibited belongings will stay.
  4. Keep the return flexible. Decide where to meet after the visit without assuming everyone will leave the complex at the same instant.

If someone in the group needs walking assistance, ask the temple helpdesk about the current arrangement before finalising a pre-dawn plan. A nominally early slot is useful only when the whole journey is manageable.

Festival dates can change the normal rhythm

The Trust specifically warns that Purnima, eclipses and other special occasions can alter Aarti and temple activity times. A familiar daily timetable therefore needs another check when the visit falls on a special date. Crowd controls may also change how an otherwise familiar entrance is used.

The notification page mentions a 4:00–5:00 AM arrangement for local devotees. Visitors should not assume that this is a universal open slot available without the relevant local arrangements. Ask what applies to your category of visit rather than relying on a time copied without its label.

For a festival trip, confirm the temple plan first and give other sightseeing a secondary place. The festival and culture guide helps with the broader setting, but current temple notices govern admission.

Keep temple Aarti separate from riverfront Aarti

The temple timetable describes worship at Kashi Vishwanath. The evening Ganga Aarti at a ghat is a separate ceremony with its own location, organisers and seasonal timing. A 7:00 PM temple ceremony and a riverfront event are not interchangeable appointments.

If you want both darshan and the riverfront on one day, a practical structure is to give the temple its own earlier block, take a break, and return for the ghat programme. Check the Ganga Aarti timings guide before fixing the evening. Avoid making a river boarding reservation depend on the shortest possible temple queue.

After a pre-dawn temple visit, leave room for breakfast and rest before the next outing. A slower morning often makes more sense than using every hour simply because the day began early.

Make one final check the evening before

  • Check the calendar date, service name and reporting instructions together.
  • Look for a newer Trust announcement affecting that date.
  • Resolve any difference between the ticket and a general schedule.
  • Confirm the vehicle pickup, last-mile walk and return meeting point.
  • Keep a second sightseeing plan that does not depend on instant admission.

Use this guide to understand the daily pattern. For the final decision about your own entry, the latest temple instruction takes priority over a saved screenshot or an older itinerary.

BEFORE YOU GO

Frequently asked questions

What time does Kashi Vishwanath Temple open and close?

The Trust FAQ describes a 3:00 AM to 11:00 PM temple day, while its notification page gives 2:45 AM opening for Mangala Aarti. Closing is published as 11:00 PM. These references do not mean general darshan is continuously available throughout that span.

Is Mangala Aarti at 2:45 AM or 3:00 AM?

The Trust notification lists 2:45 to 3:45 AM; its Daily Schedule and Aarti pages list 3:00 to 4:00 AM. Follow the current ticket and latest Trust notice, and resolve any difference before travelling. Do not arrive based only on the later time.

Can I enter for general darshan during an Aarti slot?

Do not assume that a ceremony slot is open general admission. Ritual attendance and ordinary darshan have different arrangements. Ask the Trust which general-entry window applies to your date, or follow the specific service instructions on your ticket.

How much time should I allow for darshan?

There is no reliable fixed duration for every day. Allow separately for the road transfer, walking approach, storage, security and the actual queue. Keep the next appointment flexible rather than treating a map journey time as the total visit time.

Do the timings change on festivals or eclipses?

The Trust warns that Purnima, eclipses and other special occasions can change temple activity times. Check the latest announcement for your date and follow the admission arrangement currently in force.

Are temple Aarti times the same as Ganga Aarti times?

No. Worship inside Kashi Vishwanath and Ganga Aarti at the riverfront are separate programmes. Check the chosen ghat schedule independently, and leave a generous gap if you want a temple visit and riverfront Aarti on the same day.
